Layang Layang is a township located in Johor and specifically in the district of Kluang. It is often confused with Layang Layang Island, off the coast of one of Malaysia’s other states, Sabah. It is in fact, one of the many areas that have been a New Village, a product of the Brigg’s plan in the 1950s. So, rather naturally, the area started out as having a majority of Chinese residents but now has gradually leveled out with the Malay population.
Presently, its main economy comes from its agricultural pursuits, particularly its Ulu Remis Estate which now has its club house turned into a golfing area. But above all, Layang Layang is most known for its great landscape that allows trekkers and hikers to hike all the way from inland Johor to Kota Tinggi. If one desires an urban setting as opposed to a rural one, modernity awaits in Johor Bahru, around 70 Km away. Not so much as nearby but certainly a drivable distance. Since it is located in Kluang, one can travel to and fro on Johor State Route 26.
