Sri Gading

Seri Gading is an area of 192 square kilometers, that lies within the district of Batu Pahat, in the state of Johor. The meaning of the word Seri Gading means “Attractive Ivory” in Bahasa Malaysia. This name was given to Seri Gading when one of the Malay Sultans, Sultan Ibrahim was on a hunt and was suitably impressed by the quality of the ivory. Today, elephants cannot be found in the wild, as modernization and urbanization has led to the opening of rubber and oil palm plantations in the late 1890s, and in current times, the rise of food industries and textiles industry which is what Seri Gading is known for. Nearby towns are Ayer Hitam, Yong Peng, and Kluang.

Seri Ganding is a town that is served by Federal Route 50, which to the west leads to Jalan Kluang leading into the major town of Batu Pahat. On the east, the same Federal Route 50 leads to Ayer Hitam, eventually into Kluang town. Ayer Hitam is also the gateway to the North – South Expressway which gives fast and convenient access to the northern tip into Thailand, to the southern tip of Malaysia into Singapore. If one would take the Plaza Toll Ayer Hitam and head north, they would reach the next state of Melaka.

Sri Gading is definitely an area that is filled with greenery and surrounded by forests, with abundant places for relaxation and family time. These include the parks at the Dataran Kenanga UTHM, and the neighbouring Taman Herba UTHM. For a more scenic hiking trip, there’s the Hutan Lipur Soga Perdana, and Taman Rekreasi Tasik Y for the nearest lake and jogging path. For more fun with water, there’s the famous tourist attraction, Wet World Batu Pahat Village Resort with theme park and big swimming pool areas.
