Panchor is located in Johor, specifically in the district of Muar. Since the town is located next to the Muar River, it is not surprising to hear that it was once a busy port that shipped local produce like palm oil, rice and even rubber. Unfortunately, this is not the case anymore as the port began becoming less useful when highways started emerging around the area, specifically, the North South Expressway as it proved a faster and cheaper way of transportation.
Another blow to its economy and attractiveness as a residential option is the flood it suffered in early 2006 and late 2007, considered to be the worst in Johor history. The town has since picked up in recent years though with the emerging of several industrial companies. Progress is still on -going and most “mega” amenities like hypermarkets and malls are located outside its confines. A long drive on Jalan Salleh (Johor State Route J32) will lead one to Muar’s main areas, all the way to Labis.
