Rasa is a town in the Hulu Selangor district, in the state of Selangor. Due to the discovery of tin ore in the mid 1850s and influx of workers to nearby Kuala Kubu Baru, this overflowed into Rasa, where the tycoon Tan Boon Chia stayed. Since the glory days in the 1950s, Rasa and Hulu Selangor District has been considered one of the wealthiest districts which are a part of the British Federated Malay States. This flowed over to neighbouring towns including Batang Kali, Rawang, and Serendah. Rasa has a few trunk roads that run through this town. The main highway is Federal Route 1, which covers the whole of Malaysia, from the northern tip, until the southern tip of Malaysia. Going north via the Federal Route 1, will enable the traveller to reach Kuala Kubu Bharu. Federal Route 1 comes through from the south, from Rawang, Rasa and Serendah. For residents of Rasa to use the faster toll highway of the North-South Expressway (AH2), they need to enter via the Tanjung Malim toll. Persiaran Kuala Kali comes through Rasa, and leads southward to the major town of Rawang. There is a KTM Komuter railway track that travels through Rasa and northwards towards Kuala Kubu Bharu, and a bus terminal as well. Rasa is set amidst a natural wonderland, which is excellent for health and raising one’s family and children. Nearby lakes include Huffaz Lake and Milenium Lake. For an extended relaxation trip for the family, one can take a scenic drive to Kolam Air Panas Kuala Kubu Baru for it’s the healing waters of hot springs, and experience a few other tourist attractions which promises fun, and bonding with family oriented activities. These make use of various natural resources such as the Chiling Waterfalls, on their way to Fraser’s Hills. Other activities such as hiking and camping at the Sungai Selangor Dam’s Lookout Point. One can also take walks and go fishing in Rasa, along the banks of the Selangor River which is just north of the Rasa town center. Rasa has a few supermarkets and shops to cater for meeting daily essentials, so families who cook at home will be catered for. Many shops here include 7-Eleven, 99 Speedmart, Pasaraya FTR Mini Market, Meenambika Store, Tung Yuan, Rohana Mini Mart, and Jasa Baru Enterprise (grocery store). There are open wet markets, like Pasar Awam Kuala Kubu Bharu, and the Pasar Malam Kuala Kubu Bharu. Many ethnic foods cater for the Malay, mamak and Chinese tastebuds, found in restaurants and eateries, cafes, and bakeries. These include Exma Tomyam, Abe D Nasi Kerabu, and Rasa Pork Porridge Stall. One can also go on a food trip to Kuala Kubu Bahru for Hainanese home-styled cooking (Sun Sun Seng Nam), where patrons dine surrounded by Old Malaya décor. Cafes locally include Kampong Café, Sit & Sip Boutique Café, and The Pine Café. For more choice food and shopping, one can make a trip to malls outside Rasa, such as Ligamas OASIS Street Mall, Tesco Serendah, and Genting City Mall. Families with children who stay in Rasa can rest assured that their children’s education will be well taken care of. Kindergartens and pre-schools in Rasa include Pasti Rasa Sayang, Tadika Impian Elit, and Little Caliphs Batang Kali. National schools include Sekolah Kebangsaan Antara Gapi, and SMK Serendah. Nearest universities are Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), Open University Malaysia, Sultan Idris Education University with a Fakulti Sains Kemanusiaan, and Kampus Sultan Azlan Shah at Tanjong Malim. Work in Rasa can be found in the factories in various industrial areas in the neighbourhood. These include factories manufacturing parts for automotive, paper, oil and gas, petrochemical, and power sectors. Residential properties in Rasa are a mix of both freehold and leasehold. Since Rasa is a relatively quiet town, it is welcome news for investors and homeowners to find that the median price psf is MYR 58, with a median price of around 122,500. There is ample room for growth, and very affordable for the average homeowner.
