Terengganu is situated in the north-eastern part of Peninsular Malaysia. This state is bordered by Kelantan to the northwest, Pahang to the southwest and the South China Sea to the east. The daily temperatures range from 21 to 32°C. Malays make up the largest portion of the population in Terengganu (more than 90%) followed by Chinese, Indians and other ethnic groups. Being a state with a long coastline, Terengganu was famous for building traditional, highly decorated carved wooden boats called bangau. Other traditional arts and handicrafts include wau bulan, gasing, batik and songket. Silat, tarian gamelan and tarian ulit mayang are some of the cultural performances of Terengganu. The most famous local food is kerepok lekor. Other popular local delicacies include budu, laksam, sata and nasi dagang.
