Baling is a district as well as the administrative district in southeastern
Kedah. It neighbours Alor Setar and shares the borders with Perak and Thailand’s southernmost town of Betong. Baling district comprises 8 townships and Baling town is one of them.
Baling is easily accessible via the North-South Expressway. It is also accessible by express buses from neighbouring states as well as taxis. Getting around Baling is a breeze with a car, taxi and the local bus lines.
Unlike most administrative centre, Baling has the country side feel and its townships consist of mainly kampungs. Having said that though, there are a number of amenities in this area for the local community such as major banks, medical, education, several supermarkets and department stores, infrastructure services, eateries, recreational as well as bus and taxi terminals.
Amongst the educational institutions available within the district are Sekolah Kebangsaan Baling, SJK ( C) Yeok Chee (Baling), Maktab Rendah Sains Baling, Kolej Kommuniti Baling and Sekolah Menengah (Agama) Yayasan Khairiah.
Pusat Membeli Belah Billion, Mini Market Baling, Pasaraya Aneka and Freshmart Baling as well as wet markets are available for the community’s shopping and essential needs.
There is only one hospital available in Baling which is the Baling Hospital which is further complemented by a community health clinic, community dental clinic and several private medical clinics such as Poliklinik Dr Azhar & Rakan-Rakan and Klinik Fatimah where the community can go for medical treatments.
As far as recreational activities is concerned, most of Baling offers several natural attractions which will certainly delight the outdoor lovers. Popular recreational spots frequently visited by the locals are the Ulu Legong Hot Springs, Lata Bayu, Lata Bukit Hijau and Celak Waterfalls. Besides that, there are quite a number of caves and mountain in Baling like Gunung Baling, Gunung Bayu and Gunung Pulai. The Ulu Muda Forest is a popular hiking site whilst Gua Badak, Gua Air, Gua Sireh and Gua Jepun are full of history.
Baling town is a small and quaint town that with not much developments going on. Economic activities takes place mostly in the town centre where most eateries like Secret Recipe Baling, Kong Heng Restaurant, Abang Lee Nasi Ayam Payung Besar, Oishii Western Food Baling, Kedai Kopi Leng and Tiptop Corner Roti Canai can be found along side other commercial businesses and government offices.
Properties in Baling are freehold. Properties are very affordable in Baling given that the district is rather undeveloped and has a median price psf of RM 98 or median price of RM 105,000. There current 2 projects in the area such as Taman Desa Melur 2 and Taman Bemban, for home-buyers. Investments in the area are not a popular choose due as there is not much economic activity and development going on here.
