Kuala Lumpur derive its name from “muddy estuary” and had grown from a small mining town to an internationally renowned global city that it is today. Kuala Lumpur or popularly known as KL, is the capital and the largest city in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is a modern city mostly known for Petronas Twin Towers, is one of the three Federal Territories of Malaysia and the oldest of the three having been established on 1st February 1972.

In addition to that, there are many age-old wet markets where the freshest produce can be found such as the Pudu Market which is KL’s oldest market, Sentul Market, Chow Kit Market and TTDI market. Other than that, there are also a sizeable number of Pasar Malams (night market) and Pasar Tani (Farmers’ Market) mostly operating near housing estates selling a variety of items from food to knick-knacks.
Education forms an important business activity for the country and there are plenty of educational institutions available, be in public or private, such as the prestigious Victoria Institute, St John’s Institution, Convent Bukit Nenas and a handful of international schools such as Garden International, Alice Smith School, Australian International School and many more. There are also plenty of options as far as higher education is concerned with Universiti of Malaya (UM), the country’s oldest university taking the lead. Other institution of higher leading include International Islamic University (IIU), HELP University, USCI University College and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), to name a few.
Additionally, Kuala Lumpur city also offers world-class medical facilities through its many private specialist centres like the National Heart Institute (IJN), Prince Court Medical Centre, KPJ, Sunway Medical Centre are some of the prominent ones. The Kuala Lumpur General Hospital is a public hospital whilst the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) is a university hospital.
Kuala Lumpur is surrounded by abundant nature and recreational parks such as The Lake Gardens, a 92-hectare botanical garden, KL’s first recreational park is a great place for relaxation. Within the lake gardens you’d also find the Butterfly Park, Deer Park, Orchid Garden, Hibicus Garden and the KL Bird Park, which is the world’s largest aviary bird park. Other popular parks in the city include KLCC Park, Titiwangsa Lake Gardens, Bukit Kiara Park and Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) are worth visiting. There is no need to travel out of the city to experience nature as right in the city you’d find the country’s oldest gazetted forest reserve, the 26 acres Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, a stone’s throw from the famed Petronas Twin Towers.
Kuala Lumpur city is a melting pot of diverse culture, hence, a variety of international cuisine can be found in here, from local street food to Michellin starred restaurants. Some of the local favourites are nasi lemak, satay, char kuay teow and roti canai. The city also have a vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene.
