Bachok is a coastal town as well as one of the administrative districts for the state of Kelantan. It is approximately 25 km from Kota Bahru. Bachok town is the administrative, business, and transportation hub of the district. Bachok town is also known as The Islamic Tourism town. Meanwhile, Bachok is known for its wet markets and reasonably priced items.
Getting around Bachok is a breeze as there are various mode of transportation available such as by driving, car rental buses, and taxis. You can even hire a boat to take you to Perhentian Island.
Bachok’s inhabitants are majority Malays whilst the Chinese and Siamese are minorities here. Therefore, it is not surprising to find the Thai influence in the culture, language, and the way of life of Bachok’s community.
The district’s main economy is agriculture, fishing, business, and tourism specifically Islamic tourism, which brings about abundant of opportunities for investments and work. In terms of agriculture, Bachok is known to produce the Kenaf Plants, jute-like fibre. Besides, the majority of its people are civil servants.
Although Bachok is the centre of administrative it offers a slow-paced lifestyle with very little development. However, there are a host of amenities and facilities in Bachok town like schools, shops, eateries, markets, banks, and other services for the local community’s convenience. Living in Bachok is affordable as food products are reasonably cheap and fresh especially seafood and vegetables.
In Bachok there are many types of educational institutions such as sekolah pondok, public schools, religious schools and not forgetting, tertiary institutions available for the community. Public schools available for primary education include Sekolah Kebangsaan Bachok, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kemudi and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bakong whilst available secondary schools are SMK Bachok,SMK Agama Tok Bachok and SMK Sri Nipah. Amongst the sekolah pondok are Madrasah Isahiyah, Pondok Kuin Pasir. Those seeking tertiary education opportunities can opt for Universiti Malaysian Kelantan, Kolej Vokasional Bachok, Kolej Islam, Sains dan Teknologi and Insitut Kemahiran Tinggi Belia.
The nearest hospital available for emergencies would be the USM Specialist Hospital in Kubang Krai or the Kota Bahru Hospital. Aside from that, private hospitals like KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital and Kota Bahru Medical Centre are available in nearby Kota Bahru for medical treatment. Bachok Hospital is currently under construction. For with minor illnesses can head to the many community health centres and clinics around Bachok for medical assistance.
Since one of its economic activity is agriculture and fishing, it is no doubt that one can get the freshest produce and fishes/seafood in Bachok at the many wet markets around the area which include Pasar Siti Zainab, Pasar Tani Kg Wakaf Aik Bachok and Pasar Malam Pantai Irama. There are also a handful of mini-markets and convenience stores such as Rabi Mini Market and Shifa Frozen & Mini market for daily essentials. Further to that, supermarkets offers a wider choice of brands and products and not to mention, a more comfortable shopping experience, amongst them are Billion Mart,TL Mart, and Pantai Timor Pasaraya.
Unfortunately, there are no shopping malls in Bachok, the nearest being in Kota Bahru which is a short drive away.
The coastal town offers plenty to choices when it comes to food and a haven for seafood lovers due to its status as a coastal town. Seafood is abundant and extremely fresh and affordable. Eateries popular with the community include River Village Rooftop Restaurant,The Food Lab,Seam Dora Western Food,Cross Field Food Court, and Medan Selera Bachok.
While there is not much modern recreation available in Bachok or for that matter, Kelantan, there are plenty of natural attractions in Bachok which are popular with the locals especially on weekends and during schools holidays such as Pantai Irama, Pantai Kemayang, Bukit Marak that has a significance in Kelantan’s history, Kandis Resource Centre, Kampung Balai, Pantai Pengkalan Petah the main fishing village in Bachok and Photiya Wat, a Thai influenced Buddhist temple.
Properties in Bachok are freehold and have a median price of RM 76, 469 or median price psf of RM 54. Property prices are considered affordable. And most are purchased by homebuyers although investments are rare.
