Menara Merdeka 118

Soaring to a remarkable height of 678.9 meters, Menara Merdeka 118 is a 118-storey megatall skyscraper that has reshaped Kuala Lumpur's skyline. As the tallest building in Southeast Asia and the second tallest in the world, this architectural marvel stands as a symbol of Malaysia's progress, strategically located in the historic heart of the city. Developed by PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the state-owned investment firm Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), the tower was officially inaugurated on January 10, 2024. Designed by the Australian firm Fender Katsalidis, the tower's iconic silhouette is inspired by the historic moment of Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, with his hand outstretched as he declared “Merdeka!” in 1957. The building's façade is composed of diamond-shaped glass panels, reflecting the diversity of the Malaysian people. Merdeka 118 is a comprehensive mixed-use development, seamlessly integrating commercial, hospitality, retail, and public spaces. The tower features 83 floors of Grade A office space, with 60 storeys designated as the new headquarters for PNB and its subsidiaries. The building also offers flexible and coworking office solutions through providers such as Regus and Spaces for businesses seeking a prestigious address. Occupying the top 17 floors of the tower, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is the first Park Hyatt hotel in Malaysia. This luxury hotel will feature 252 guestrooms and suites, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the city skyline from levels 97 to 112. Amenities include world-class restaurants, a spa, and a pool. The hotel is anticipated to open in 2025. At the base of the tower is the 118 Mall, a seven-storey shopping centre set under a massive glass dome. This retail destination will feature a curated Malaysian Artisan District, diverse dining options, and entertainment facilities. It is expected to open by 2026. Located on levels 115 and 116, 'The View at 118' is set to be Southeast Asia’s highest observation deck. This attraction will provide breathtaking 360-degree views of Kuala Lumpur and will feature thrilling experiences like an 'Edge Walk' on a glass floor outside the building. Merdeka 118 is a leader in sustainable design, being the first mega-tall building in Malaysia to achieve a LEED Platinum certification. It is also targeting platinum ratings from the Green Building Index (GBI) and Green Real Estate (GreenRE), making it a triple-platinum green building. Key features include 100% rainwater recycling, solar-powered systems, and an advanced energy-optimised building management system. Situated on Jalan Hang Jebat, the Merdeka 118 precinct is exceptionally well-connected. It offers direct integration with the city's rail network via a link to the Merdeka MRT station, with access to the Plaza Rakyat LRT and Maharajalela Monorail stations as well. Road access is facilitated by the newly constructed Belfield Tunnel, which connects the development to major city thoroughfares.
