Jalan Ampang stretches from downtown Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) in the west through to its namesake suburb of Ampang in the east. The road is a major artery for travel in and out of KLCC, as well as being a popular area for residential accommodation.
The urban landscape of Jalan Ampang varies notably along its length. In the west you find the shining developments and affluent condominiums of KLCC, with the renowned Petronas Towers rising above the local area. In its journey east, the road passes the well-maintained walls and colonial era buildings of many international embassies, bestowing the area with its affectionate title as Embassy Row. As the road continues east, Jalan Ampang condo complexes once again begin to emerge above the neighbourhood, with low-rise apartment blocks and terrace houses dotted through the area.
Jalan Ampang property presents a changing landscape across the length of this popular road that stretches to the east of Kuala Lumpur. Large condo developments such as The Elements and 3 Towers reflect the rapidly developing market for affluent residential units found within the neighbourhood. Meanwhile, condo complexes like Arte Ampang and integrated eco-development M-City showcase the more unique side of this high-end luxury residential opportunity.
Jalan Ampang is an area which demonstrates the intriguing history of development, and rapid pace of change, in Kuala Lumpur’s property market. Luxury condominiums give way to remnants of colonial architecture, before elements of traditional shopfronts, terrace housing, and landed property emerge, only to be overshadowed again by fresh and modern luxury developments.
Major malls are conveniently located along the length of Jalan Ampang, providing simple access to retail opportunities throughout the area. Suria KLCC and Avenue K provide luxury shopping experiences in the heart of KLCC, and are easily accessed on the western side of Jalan Ampang, offering upmarket retail alongside ample F&B and entertainment offerings. The Great Eastern Mall presents a quieter neighbourhood alternative, with an equally upmarket outlook to much of its offering. Ampang Point provides another convenient family-friendly alternative for residents around the eastern side of Jalan Ampang.
Families in the area benefit from access to a range of outstanding international and private schools, along with numerous public schools located in nearby suburbs. The International School of Kuala Lumpur, Sayfol International School, and Mutiara International Grammar School are just some of the popular international schools found on and around Jalan Ampang.
With its diverse range of neighbourhoods crossing from east to west, Jalan Ampang also provides ample recreational opportunity. Entertainment such as cinemas, arcades, and bowling can be found in the numerous malls the length of Jalan Ampang. More outdoor pursuits can be enjoyed at KLCC Park to the west, or the beautiful lakeside location of Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir to the east.
Cold Storage at Suria KLCC provides a substantial supermarket for residents’ shopping and grocery needs in the busy KLCC area. Hock Choon Supermarket offers another convenient alternative that sits just to the east of the busier downtown section of Jalan Ampang. Cold Storage at Great Eastern Mall provides another supermarket choice, while Giant Supermarket at Ampang Point caters for residents in the eastern side of the neighbourhood.
Connectivity is an excellent selling point of the Jalan Ampang area, as we might expect from a road which forms such an important link into KLCC. This does result in residents being exposed to significant congestion at popular times. The Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) provides a convenient highway that runs parallel to Jalan Ampang, and has succeeded to some degree in alleviating the congestion along the road itself. Jalan Ampang also connects to Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 in the east, and Jalan Tun Razak to the west, providing onward links to major highways that connect the wider Klang Valley.
Public transport can also be accessed at different points on Jalan Ampang. Ampang Park LRT Station provides a link to the Kelana Jaya Line, with travel north to Gombak and south through KL Sentral to Putra Heights. Ampang Park is also set to become an interchange station with the Sungai Buloh–Serdang–Putrajaya MRT line, currently under construction. KLCC LRT Station, located in the basement of Avenue K, provides access to the Kelana Jaya Line for residents of Jalan Ampang in the KLCC area. A convenient walkway also provides a link with the monorail at Raja Chulan Monorail Station. Ampang LRT Station to the eastern side of Jalan Ampang provides residents with access to public transport on the Ampang LRT Line, as well as being a handy hub for local bus routes.
