Analysis
The developer is confident that Datum Jelatek’s superior connectivity, strategic location, architecture and value as an investment, will bring about the development’s success. The retail mall, Datum Jelatek Mall, will have a population catchment of 400,000 ranging from income levels of RM7,000 to RM30,000 within the surrounding KL City Centre, Ampang, and Setiawangsa.
Datum Jelatek is one of the more affordably priced residential options in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, as per comparison below. As for the mall, Datumcorp is not looking to compete with the retail market in the city centre. It is aiming to complement it by positioning the retail mall as a neighbourhood lifestyle mall for the middle to high-income earners.

Summary
The development of Datum Jelatek had a very rocky beginning, with residents of the area protesting against the project. One of the bigger issues that bothered the residents was that Datum Jelatek would turn the Malay neighbourhood into a “Chinese district”. When Datumcorp took over, there was no issue. It seemed to be a one-off incident and they haven’t had any problems since construction started. It could have initially been due to the lack of information. It has been reported that Datum Jelatek site is not a Malay Reserve land.
Located in a matured area, the development’s components seem suitable. According to the developer, the most popular units at Datum Jelatek are the studios and 1-bedroom units.
