Batu Gajah is a town that is located in the Kinta District of Perak. The name was derived from the two stones that resemble elephants found along the Kinta River where it is believed to scare away the elephants that destroyed the villagers’ sugar cane crops in folklores. Batu Gajah was well known for being a tin mining town before the town was developed. Batu Gajah has been developed a lot over the years and in September 2012, Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd, a major electric locomotive manufacturers in China has agreed to build a rolling-stock factory in Batu Gajah.
