Jalan Ampang

Jalan Ampang is an affluent neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur. It is also a major road in Kuala Lumpur and home to an affluent international community and embassies. Jalan Ampang was built in 1880 and is one of the oldest roads in Klang Valley. Jalan Ampang is also popularly known as Embassy Row for its many embassies along its stretch. Jalan Ampang is not to be confused with Ampang Jaya area which is part of Selangor state.

Jalan Ampang is easily accessible from Jalan Tun Razak from the city and the MRR 2 as well as the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH). Jalan Ampang is also accessible via public transportation such as buses, taxis, LRT and e-hailing. There are four LRT stations located along Jalan Ampang and they are Dang Wangi LRT station, KLCC LRT station, Ampang Park LRT station and Ampang LRT station.

As an affluent neighbourhood, Jalan Ampang offers a host of amenities such as shopping malls, banks, eateries and many more, that are all within convenient reach of its community. Along the stretch are many high end luxury residences and office buildings like The Intermark which houses many international companies. Double Tree Hilton is also at The Intermark.  One of the most notable landmarks along Jalan Ampang is the famed Petronas Twin Towers, popularly known as KLCC amongst the locals. The site where the twin towers stands today was the former site of the Selangor Turf Club which had since moved to Seri Kembangan.  Other prominent office buildings along the stretch include Menara Public Bank, Menara Citibank, Menara Great Eastern and Menara Ilham with houses the British High Commission. There are also several international hotels and residences along the stretch such as W, Intercontinental Hotel and Four Seasons Place. Popular residential enclave includes Ampang Hilir and Jalan U-Thant.  

Schools available here include Sayfol International School, International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), SMK Seri Puteri Ampang, SK Kuala Ampang and The Children’s House Ampang Hilir.

Jalan Ampang is also home to numerous medical centres offering world-class facilities such as Gleneagles Hospital, HSC Medical Centre and KPJ Ampang Puteri whilst there is also Prince Court Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Velocity, IJN and Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, all of which are within a 10km radius.

Embassies along Jalan Ampang are Embassy of Russian Federation, Royal Thai Embassy, Embassy of the State of Qatar,Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Embassy of Finland and Embassy of Ireland, to name just a few. Other embassies are Embassy of the United States of American, Embassy of Japan, Singapore High Commision and Embassy of Indonesia are along nearby Jalan Tun Razak.

Available supermarkets for daily essentials include Hock Choon a neighbourhood store popular with the expatriate community, Cold Storage, Ben’s Independent Grocers, Jaya Grocers, Village Grocer and Isetan Supermarket KLCC. Popular shopping malls include Suria KLCC which houses an array of international brands, Avenue K, Great Eastern Mall and The Linc.

Meanwhile recreational amenities available include KLCC Park and Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir while for entertainment there is AquariaKLCC, Petrosains, SuperPark Malaysia,Breakout and TGV KLCC amongst others. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is also worth visiting. The Royal Selangor Golf Club in nearby Jalan Tun Razak is a prestigious member only club and The Raintree Club is also near to Jalan Ampang. Other recreational venue includes Zoo Negara and Kemensah Waterfalls along nearby MRR2.

There are plenty of food choices along Jalan Ampang to choose such as Nasi Kandar Pelita Ampang KL, SOULed Out Ampang, La Risata, Nobu and Dolly Dim Sum. Marini’s on 57 is a popular place to go for an evening cocktail while De Wan in The Linc is owned by Chef Wan, Malaysia’s very own internationally acclaimed celebrity chef.  Aside from these, there are many more eateries within the many shopping malls and hotels along this stretch.
