I am a seller of an apartment. The purchaser paid deposit of RM12K to real estate agency. Now he aborted the purchase, agency finally paid me my share of RM6K.
Agency asked me to pay 6% of RM6000 as GST payment. Is this common practice in Malaysia? In this case, the RM6K is not service fees, and in my opinion does not incur GST. Please advise.

Yes, since you the agency already provided service to you thus they are eligibe to charge the 6% GST but you can request for Tax invoice for your reference Read More
