I am a seller of an apartment. The purchaser paid deposit of RM12K to real estate agency. Now he aborted the purchase, agency finally paid me my share of RM6K.
Agency asked me to pay 6% of RM6000 as GST payment. Is this common practice in Malaysia? In this case, the RM6K is not service fees, and in my opinion does not incur GST. Please advise.

Hi, You can compromise with the agency. As usual practice, for forfeit case, agency didn't ask GST from the forfeit portion. Hope it's help. 016-696 8923  Read More

To you it is considered forfeiture of deposit. However to the agency, they are charging you as a service fee. The Agency will have to provide you with a tax invoice stating their GST number etc. Read More

12k is commission, 6k also but shared to you. For 12k, 6% applies, same goes to d 6k included in d sum. Read More
