Penang local councils ensure hillslope safety

3 Jul 2013

Local councils held regular meetings with Malaysia’s Public Works Institute (Ikram) and the state Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure that Penang hillslope projects are carried out safely, according to State Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Committee Chairman Elizabeth Wong.

JKR and Ikram now regularly submit reports on the stability of hillslopes and these areas are monitored closely, said Wong in response to a query by Bukit Antarabangsa MP Mohd Azmin Ali on measures implemented to ensure the safety of hillslopes.

Mohd Azmin also questioned the hillslope projects in Ampang and asked for a detailed report on the project.

On this matter, Wong replied that her committee would submit the report once it has obtained a copy from JKR, Ikram and the local councils.

Meanwhile, Rawang MP Gan Pei Nei asked if the state government will provide  additional funds for hillslope accidents such as the landslide in Rawang Perdana two weeks ago.

Wong responded that the authorities would provide help if necessary.
