The federal government has not yet disclosed the details of Selangor’s water restructuring agreement because they are still waiting for the official request from the state government.
Selangor’s newly appointed Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali announced last Wednesday that he will be writing to the federal government to formally request that the details of the deal be made public, according to Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Diraja Mahdzir Khalid from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water.
“We are waiting for the official letter from the new Mentri Besar. Last Wednesday, Azmin after the exco meeting had said that they will send a letter as soon as possible to the ministry about the water agreement between the federal and the state government.”
Moreover, he does not know if Gamuda Bhd’s Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) had sent proposals regarding the deal to the state government
Notably, Splash is the only remaining water concessionaire in Selangor that has not yet agreed to the state government’s takeover offer. On the other hand, Puncak Niaga, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) and Konsortium Abbas have acquiesced to the deal.
During the administration of the previous Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Splash was given six months to submit a proposal, noted Madhzir.
“We do not know yet (if Splash has responded with a proposal). We are waiting for the official letter. The ministry is only acting as the moderator,” he added.
