Reserving Parking Bays is Illegal

City Hall reminded the public that reserving a parking bay, which is strictly meant for cars, is illegal. As such, placing an object such as a chair to reserve a parking bay is not allowed.

“Even if they pay for the reservation by placing a parking ticket on the object occupying the parking bay, that is still wrong,” said Kota Kinabalu mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

However, a photo that was widely circulated on social media depicting someone reserving a parking bay at the Damai commercial area appeared to be fake, noted Yeo.

City Hall enforcement personnel had even checked the said area and found no chair occupying a parking bay.

“Perhaps it was just a prank,” said Yeo.

He revealed that City Hall enforcement personnel will take immediate action against anyone seen reserving or blocking a parking bay.
