Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to unveil the Sabah stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway project on 23 April, according to the state’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

That portion of the road network spanning 706-kilometre is projected to cost around RM12.8 billion and construction will first start at Jalan Donggongon-Papar.

“Jalan Donggongon-Papar is the first package under the Pan Borneo Highway project,” Mr Najib told the media yesterday during the launch of the Sabah Road Day 2016.

“We have not only been given the chance to have this highway but our local contractors have been given the opportunity to build it. This is the promise of the prime minister and he will be true to the promise,” added Musa.

Aside from the initial package for the 11.7-km Jalan Donggongon-Papar, there are also two more packages under the project, noted Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is also Sabah’s Minister of Infrastructure Development.

In particular, these are the 7.1km Lahad Datu bypass and Jalan Tawau-Semporna, which begin from KM45 to KM49.7.

Estimated to cost RM27 billion, the 2,239km Pan Borneo Highway will connect Sabah and Sarawak upon completion by 2025.
