It was announced at the Dewan Rakyat that the government has completed a total of 182 abandoned housing projects from the year 2009 to April 2016 while many are in progress.

According to the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, the completed projects involved 32,641 buyers.

“There are 226 abandoned private housing projects which involve a sum of 40,866 home buyers. The completed projects involved 80.5% of the buyers,” she added.

There are still 44 projects going on at the moment – 20 projects are in various stages of recovery, meanwhile, the remaining 24 projects are in the early planning stage.

“The government will always protect the buyer’s interest by getting reliable and experienced developers to take over the abandoned projects,” she stated further.

According to Halima, the government is also undertaking the recovery of abandoned low and medium-low cost private projects with the allocation provided by the federal government.
