I-Bhd has partnered with information and communications technology solutions provider Huawei to develop its Smart City as well as Internet of Things (IoT)-ready home concept.
With IoT as the way forward, I-Bhd deputy chairman Eu Hong Chew said it made sense for the property developer to start planning now in making homes IoT-ready.
“Our Converse@i-City, a high-end residential targeted to be launched by early 2017, will showcase the next phase of i-City’s Smart City concept and the units will be IoT-ready,” said Eu following the signing of the agreement with Huawei South Pacific region chief marketing officer Lim Chee Siong.
The event was witnessed by I-Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong and Science, Technology and Innovation minister Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau.
Eu expects the technology scene to evolve over the next few years. As such, it is important for its infrastructure to be future-proof and relevant.
“We will be working with Huawei for the next five years, but I believe that this partnership will be renewed after that as we go along in developing the IoT concept,” he said.
“We are confident that as technology evolves, there will be more solutions to develop and this tie-up will enable us to focus on property development while harnessing the technological strengths of Huawei.”
Notably, the strategic partnership with Huawei will mainly focus on upgrading i-City’s connectivity infrastructure.
In view of i-City’s role in offering township services, it will also have a common smart city platform for solutions like traffic management, street lighting and parking.
In welcoming I-Bhd’s decision to develop IoT-ready homes, Madius urged other property developers to follow suit in order to pave the way towards cleaner and greener homes.
