While they are not against development, residents of Taman Desa in Kuala Lumpur want the development within their area to be balanced and sustainable.
The residents revealed that at least six high-density projects comprising 5,000 apartment units in total were in the process of seeking approval or had been launched within their area.
“We are being sandwiched between all these high-rise developments,” said Yap Biow Hwee, vice-president of Taman Desa Residents Association during a dialogue with residents.
“Once these projects are completed in a few years, the additional traffic and influx of people will put a strain on the roads and facilities that currently service 8,000 households.”
DBKL has also ignored their requests for a briefing on the upcoming projects, added Yap.
Meanwhile, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok raised the issue of the ungazetted draft plan of Kuala Lumpur.
“As the country’s capital city, how can there not be any gazetted plans for development?”
DBKL has scrapped its 2020 draft plan while starting discussions for the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2050.
Kok noted that the residents only want a balanced and sustainable development within their area.
With this, she revealed plans to start a “signature campaign that will also inform people of what is going on”.
“On my part, I will bring these issues up during the next Parliament sitting on Oct 23,” she added.
