Perak’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the primary objective of the state’s Housing and Property Board is to assist locals purchase their own homes rather to vie against property developers, reported The Star.
“The board is here to make sure that the policies of the National Housing Department are in place so as to achieve the government’s target of providing the people with affordable homes.”
This year, the board aims to complete a minimum of 1,200 new residential properties in Perak, he told the media after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony for the Elemen@18 project under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) scheme in Pengkalan, Ipoh.
“Whether they will be terraced houses or apartments depends on the suitability of each particular location, but for sure, they will be offered to the people at a competitive and affordable price,” added Dr Zambry.
Meanwhile, State Secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan revealed that 72 single-storey terraced houses and 288 apartments will be offered to government employees under the joint venture project between PPA1M, Utusan Variasi Sdn Bhd and the State Secretary Incorporated (SSI).
For the development, PPA1M is providing an average subsidy of RM38,000 per unit, or a total of RM13.915 million, he noted, adding that the project has a gross development value of RM74 million.
Consequently, a 92.9 sq m home there costs only RM176,000, a 78.9 sq m apartment is priced at RM139,000, while terraced houses are selling for between RM220,000 and RM433,000.
Situated on a 20.3ha land, the residential development is targeted for completion by 2018, added Abdul Puhat.
