Engineering and construction company WCT Holdings announced on Wednesday (5 April) that it has secured a work package from Prasarana Malaysia Bhd for a contract sum of around RM185.9 million, excluding the six percent goods and services tax.
According to the firm, its wholly-owned subsidiary WCT Bhd agreed to undertake and complete Package TD1, which involves the construction and completion of Johan Setia Depot (Phase 1) and related works under the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia.
“LRT3 is a double-track rail alignment of approximately 37 kilometres long with 26 stations covering the areas of Bandar Utama, Shah Alam and Klang, before terminating at Johan Setia in Klang. The Johan Setia Depot is located next to the Johan Setia LRT station,” it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.
The scope of the contract includes site investigation, area clearance, demolition and earthworks, sub-structure works, drainage works, roadworks, electrical and mechanical works, as well as managing issues pertaining to traffic and roads, safety, health and environment.
WCT expects to complete the project within 18 months starting from 4 April 2017, the date of the letter of acceptance.
Meanwhile, The Star reported that the construction of Johan Setia Depot is among the first set of work packages awarded under the RM9 billion LRT3 project.
Civil works for the LRT3 project is scheduled to begin between March and May, with construction of the first phase targeted for completion by 2020 and operations commencing in August of the same year.
Previously, Prasarana’s President and Group CEO Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz revealed in January that it has qualified in advance 96 contractors for LRT3’s infrastructure and systems packages.
The first batch of awards involves the construction of staff quarters and Johan Setia depot, as well as preliminary works.
