Most Malaysians Plan to Buy a Home in Next 6 Months

26 Apr 2017

A survey revealed that 56 percent of Malaysians want to acquire a home within the next six months, with the KLCC area and Kuala Lumpur city centre emerging as the most favoured destinations, reported The Star.

“About 38 percent of them are first-time house buyers, 30 percent repeat buyers, 23 percent investors, six percent expatriates and three percent tenants,” said the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (Rehda) president Datuk Seri F D Iskandar.

Polling 1,655 respondents, Rehda’s House Buyers’ Survey 2017 showed that more than 25 percent of respondents are looking to buy a home within the next six to 12 months, 12 percent were undecided and six percent wanted to acquire a home immediately.

However, the stringent lending rules pose as a major deterrent to the potential buyers, said Iskandar.

He also described the respondents’ preference to acquire a property in the KLCC area and Kuala Lumpur city centre as unrealistic.

“If you want to buy a property in Damansara Heights or even Bangsar … then you’re going to be prepared to pay for it.”

Other sought-after locations by respondents include Petaling Jaya, Cheras, Bangsar, Puchong, Shah Alam and Cyberjaya.

Majority of the respondents said they were looking to buy a property for self-dwelling purposes, with apartments/condominiums emerging as the most preferred property type.

According to the survey, 34 percent of the respondents want to buy a home measuring between 1,000 sq ft and 1,500 sq ft, while 33 percent are looking for units measuring between 800 sq ft and 1,000 sq ft.

Meanwhile, 41 percent of the respondents were eyeing properties priced from RM300,000 to RM500,000, while 32 percent were looking for homes priced from RM500,000 to RM750,000.

Among properties around KLCC area are:

1. Isola KLCC

2. Eaton Residences

3. Aria Luxury KLCC

Awful reporting. Article Title: "Most Malaysians Plan to Buy a Home in Next 6 Months" Survey Results: "...Survey showed that more than 25 percent of respondents are looking to buy a home within the next six to 12 months... and six percent wanted to acquire a home immediately." 56% can "want" to buy, heck 100% could "want" to buy. But that is no where near "planning" to buy. Planning means some level of ability to purchase. Keep pushing the value of the debt bubble called KL real-estate. The government just keeps drawing it out by allowing worse lending practices.

A completely meaningless survey, poorly drafted, poorly analysed and poorly reported. Why publish it. The ignorance displayed in its conclusions are embarrassing.
