While they were against the project, the residents of Taman Midah in Cheras decided to have a talk with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and developer of a 50-storey twin towers project within their area to raise issues such as traffic and parking.
To feature 1,319 units, the project was given the green light in November and is set to be completed in 2021, reported The Star.
The 0.975ha land on which the proposed project is located was the former site of the DBKL Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Transport management office.
“We tried to get the project scrapped before it was approved, as residents had valid concerns over the project…But now construction has already started, and I was told that 80 percent of the units have been sold,” said Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.
“Realistically, there is nothing we can do to stop it, but it is important that issues like traffic and parking be addressed.”
Among the concerns was the existing infrastructure within the area was not sufficient to cope with the expected hike in traffic.
“The number of parking bays allocated is only 1,350, which is not sufficient to cope with the number of people expected to frequent the business complex,” said Tan.
The project was also too close to the roundabout in Jalan Cheras.
Tan revealed that he had raised the issue in Parliament in 2017, but the project was already approved by DBKL.
Then FT minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said that the approval was on the condition that the developer complies with set technical requirements, like preparing a traffic impact assessment as well as upgrading the traffic system.
“I think it’s a bit too late to do anything since construction has started. But at least, the developers must ensure that there is enough parking space within the complex,” noted Taman Midah B Rukun Tetangga chairman C. Nadarajah.
