DatumCorp Creates Awareness on Orang Asli Community

22 Oct 2018

In an effort to increase awareness amongst the public for the contributions of the Orang Asli community in Selangor, DatumCorp Inernational Sdn Bhd launched a mobile game, Datum Tap, under its #DatumHomesForAll campaign.

DatumCorp, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), has embarked on the journey to establish a smart and efficient campaign to increase awareness for Orang Asli community.

Being the first of its kind, the mobile game is initiated under the campaign and will aid DatumCorp’s community-building aims through achieving two objectives – to increase awareness amongst the public for the contributions of the Orang Asli community to the state; and to ease home ownership and investment in Datum Jelatek through four unique special year-end packages to celebrate the launch of its first corporate responsibility initiatives.

The campaign was recently launched by Menteri Besar Selangor, Amirudin Shari, who also witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between DatumCorp’s chief executive officer, Shytul Shahryn Mohamad Shaari, and Epic Society President, John-Son Oei marking the launch of Datum Tap game which allows players to help Orang Asli communities by playing a tapping game on their smartphones, while having the chance to win prizes.

Amirudin said DatumCorp and EPIC homes initiatives will be a start for a culture which sees those who have the means to help those who are in need. The state government also aims in improving the lives of Orang Asli in Selangor and DatumCorp’s move is parallel to the aim. He said the profit from the sale of units will be channelled to help building homes for Orang Asli communities.

“From the 708 units of Datuk Jelatek project being developed by DatumCorp, 108 units have been sold. Part of the profit through sales of these units will be used to build Orang Asli homes with the help of the Epic Society.

“The more we sell, the more we can built for the Orang Asli community in Selangor, in line with the government’s concept of celebrating culture which helps fellow communities.

“Partly, it is through the value of property purchase at PKNS via DatumCorp. If this format is successful, we may extend it to PPRT, as well as other things that can be developed,” he said. The multiple award-winning Datum Jelatek is the first of DatumCorp’s RM1.2 billion transit-orientated integrated development which is anchored on the idea of “Bridging the Community”.

The project, which is directly connected to the Jelated LRT station, comprises four residential tower totaling 708 units, which are linked to a four-storey retail mall with 317,000sq ft net lettable area. The four towers – Daneeya, Ayaana, Careema and Basheera, spreading over 2.29 hectares of prime land.

According to Oei, the unique mobile game is downloadable on iOS and Android platforms and allows players to collect planks by tapping on their smart phones to build virtual homes for Orang Asli.

“Participants who are interested to play must like the official Datum Jelatek Facebook Page, log in to the mobile app game with an authentic Facebook account to their progress, which will gain in-game virtual rewards that gives them a chance to be in running for the grand prize and weekly prizes,” he said.

At the end of the campaign in January 2019, Datumcorp will turn the virtual homes into actual homes for the some of the most deserving Orang Asli families with the help of EPIC Homes.

The weekly prize for players include Huawei P20 Prom with thirteen units in total up for grab, and the grand prize, which will be announced on January 2019 is a six-day and five-night trip to Osaka. The weekly prize winner will be announced every Sunday while the grand prize winner will be announced on January 12, 2019 during the Grand Finale Event.

Oei said the launch of the game is at the right time to create awareness and to help Epic in achieving its goal to help Orang Asli community to have comfortable homes. Epic Society is a non-profit organization that has a flagship programme which aims to build homes for the underserved Orang Asli communities.
