The Federal Territories Ministry is poised to begin its internal investigation into Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) allegedly anomalous sale of 64 pieces of land to property developers from 2013 to 2018, reported Bernama.
Newly appointed Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said they will help the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) determine if these deals involved corruption, embezzlement and abuse of power.
Previously, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng submitted a complaint to MACC regarding these allegedly dubious transactions, in which 424.29 acres of land were sold at below market value for a total of RM4.28 billion.
Khalid said his agency will not condone if there were abuse of power in these deals, adding that the ministry places high importance on the integrity, transparency, trustworthiness of its employees.
However, he doesn’t want the ministry to just focus on the investigation, as there are many problems that they need to look into.
“I do not want to be like an investigator. I want to tackle everything and not just look at one issue,” he said.
One of the things they are looking into is the River of Life project, which needs to studied in terms of its cleanliness, waste management and public awareness.
“I want to have a detailed study and I am looking at solutions. There are several issues like implementation, water quality, and waste from illegal industries that require close attention,” he added.
