Some Stakeholders Reject Smaller Project in Taman Rimba Kiara

10 Jan 2019

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh and the residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) have rejected a proposal to scale-down the controversial housing project in Taman Rimba Kiara as it will still encroach into the park, reported The Star.

“Our stand remains that there should be no encroachment onto existing green space and we support permanent housing for the Bukit Kiara longhouse residents,” said the TTDI Residents’ Association in a statement.

“We have already demonstrated that a viable, affordable design can be built for them within the current 1.6ha longhouse footprint,” noted Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar, Chairman of Taman Tun Dr Ismail Resident’s Association.

This is what transpired during the December meeting of the joint working committee (JWC), which was established in November to address the issue over the Taman Rimba Kiara development. The committee consists of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, and the Federal Territories Ministry, along with representatives of TTDI residents as well as those from Bukit Kiara longhouse.

Consequently, the project developer was instructed to resubmit a housing plan limited to the current site occupied by the Bukit Kiara longhouse during the meeting in December.

“We expect to look at a revised proposal on that basis from the developer at the next JWC meeting,” said the TTDI Residents’ Association in response to a recent report from The Star which revealed that the stakeholders failed to come to a consensus during the meeting.

Abdul Hafiz also explained that the stakeholders only expressed their views during the December session, which was the first JWC meeting.

“We expect to continue working within that framework and reach an acceptable solution,” he added.
