Further details on HSR project to be announced in due course

In view of the 31 December deadline for the second and final extension of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project’s suspension, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong held a video conference call to discuss the matter.

The two Prime Ministers said further details on the project would be announced in due course, reported The Edge.

“Both sides will announce further details on the HSR project through a joint statement in due course.”

They also reaffirmed the “strong bilateral relations between the two countries covering many areas of cooperation and the sincere desire to further strengthen these relations for mutual benefit”.

It was recently reported that Malaysia may proceed with the HSR project without the participation of Singapore by having the rail line end at Johor Bahru.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, however, said that the two countries are still in talks regarding Malaysia’s proposals to improve the project.

He added that an announcement will be made after reaching a decision on the matter.
