Sunway Malls is offering its non-essential retailers RM20 million rent-free during the 14-day movement control order period running from 18 to 31 March 2020.
Non-essential trade like fashion, entertainment, home furnishing, and leisure outlets were ordered to cease operation during the 14-day period, unlike the essential supplies and services such as supermarket, convenience stores, pharmacies, and F&B outlets (delivery & takeaway), reported The Sun Daily.
“For non-essential trade retailers, the current situation puts a tremendous strain on revenue and cash-flow,” said Sunway Malls and Theme Parks CEO HC Chan.
The mall operator acknowledges such impact on non-essential trade retailers and believes that the long-term sustainability of their businesses is also an important aspect.
“At times like these, everyone is losing. This grant is expected to bring a certain degree of comfort and relief to Sunway Malls’ affected retailers,” added Chan.
Aside from offering free rent, Sunway will also undertake steps to lessen credit control for retailers in this difficult period.
Sunway Malls operates establishments like Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Carnival, Sunway Putra, Sunway Giza, Sunway Big Box Retail Park, Sunway Velocity, and Sunway Citrine.
