Penang now under RMCO

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow slammed allegations that the state refused to comply with the recovery movement control order (RMCO) as false, saying that the state always welcomed announcements by the federal government.

In fact, Penang will fully implement the RMCO from today, reported Bernama.

This comes after the Penang State Security Special Committee (JKKN) unanimously approved the implementation of the RMCO from today as announced by the federal government.

JKKN also agreed to a phased opening of other sectors under the prohibited category list, subject to the federal government’s announcement.

“The JKKN will head the state-level monitoring committee on the implementation of the seven core RMCO strategies and the normalisation phase announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and will be implemented at the state level in a coordinated and integrated manner,” Bernama quoted Chow as saying in a live message on his Facebook page.

Chow noted that decisions made by the state government is “based on the health and socio-economic balance of the people in the state or, synonymously, ‘we need to safeguard our lives and our livelihood’”.

Meanwhile, with the state remaining a safe zone for local and tourists, Chow is confident that Penang’s Tourism Recovery Action Plan would help it become a popular tourist spot once again.

“The concept of ‘responsible tourism’ will be incorporated into the Tourism Recovery Action Plan to ensure the viability of the sector,” he said.
