Construction work at four housing projects at Sungai Jelok in Kajang has been temporarily halted as their developers have failed to the necessary secure earthworks permits from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).
Amongst them, two developments were closed off for flouting the council’s flood prevention rules, such as not building silt traps and water retention ponds, according to MPKj Acting President Zulkefli Khalid.
“Stop-work orders have been given and each site was slapped with a compound fine of RM25,000 during an operation last week,” he said.
Zulkefli noted that the home builders will not be able to continue their work until the earthworks permits have been obtained, given that this document is a requirement for the infrastructure plan.
“The infrastructure plan includes development for land, road and drainage,” he said, pledging that the authorities will perform visit the sites every week to monitor for compliance.
Aside from that, authorities suspect that these housing developments could have aggravated the flash floods in Kajang over the past few months.
