The former site of the Desa Water Park in Taman Danau Desa, Jalan Kelang Lama in Kuala Lumpur will be transformed into a mixed development project featuring 3,000 Federal Territories Affordable Housing scheme (Rumawip) units.
This comes after developer Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd acquired the 16.99ha site for RM500 million.
Aside from the Rumawip units, the development will also include commercial and residential projects.
“The water park was not sustainable and the operators complained that they had lost money over the past few years to keep the place running,” said Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor during the launch of three Rumawip projects at the former Desa Water Park.
The site was previously leased by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to Berjaya Corp.
“We have taken back the land and the operators have been compensated.”
As part of the sale condition, he revealed that they had insisted for the development of 3,000 Rumawip units, which will cost below RM230,000 for an 850 sq ft unit.
“But, we are negotiating for an additional 2,000 units to be constructed,” he said.
“There will, of course, be other commercial development but this has not been finalised by the developers.”
Notably, Tengku Adnan also launched three projects simultaneously – Residensi Jalilmas in Bukit Jalil, Residensi Desamas in Taman Desa and Residensi Wangsamas in Wangsa Maju.
Prices for a 900 sq ft unit at Desamas stands at RM300,000, while an 800 sq ft unit at the other two locations costs RM198,000.
“Since 2013 until November this year, we have achieved a total of 50,455 Rumawip units or 63 percent of our overall target of 80,000 units by 2020,” revealed Tengku Adnan.
From 2013 to 2016, 26 projects were offered to citizens since the Rumawip programme was introduced.
“Some units have already been sold and there are still some in the screening application or sales phase,” he added.
