Commuters will soon be able to take a trip on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line One starting on Friday, according to Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“What the @barisanasional government has promised, we deliver. This Dec 16, @MRTMalaysia will be the latest icon in the capital, benefiting the rakyat,” he tweeted.
The 23km Phase I, set to be operational by Friday, runs from Semantan to Sungai Buloh along the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (MRT SBK) Line.
Its 12 stations are located in Semantan, Pusat Bandar Damansara, Phileo Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Bandar Utama, Mutiara Damansara, Surian, Kota Damansara, Kwasa Sentral, Kwasa Damansara, Kampung Selamat and Sungai Buloh.
Meanwhile, Phase II of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line is expected to commence its operations by July 2017. The 28km rail line has 19 stations spanning from Kajang to Semantan.
Notably, each train will have four cars and can handle 1,200 passengers per trip. But once Phase II is operational, around 400,000 people are expected to ride daily. There is also no need to fret about missing a train during peak hours, as one train will take off every 3.5 minutes during this period.
According to Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the train fare will range from RM1 for a single stop to RM5.50 based on cashless fare structure for a full ride between Kajang and Sungai Buloh. If a commuter will pay in cash, the fare will start from RM1.10 and caps at RM6.40.
For Phase One from Sungai Buloh to Semantan, people will need to pay RM3.40 for journeying the full 12 stations based on cashless structure and RM3.90 if paying in cash.
