According to the Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, the Kedah state government is planning for a 15,000km road extension which includes upgrades on rural roads statewide.

This extension and upgrades will be registered under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Maris).

“All related party and departments have been informed to identify roads to be registered under Maris, which will increase the total allocation by the central government. This will further benefit the contractors,” he added.

The Maris system used by JKR helps the department to identify the length of the roads and by March 2016, a sum of 13,332km of roads in Kedah have been registered under Maris.

“The state government has approved a RM7.9 million allocation for 125 minor works and the contracts will be distributed through a tender,” said Ahmad Bashah.
