Malacca is a fast growing state in Malaysia which is undergoing rapid development at the moment. But the state also houses numerous abandoned projects in the housing, commercial, industrial and tourism sector which remains an eyesore.
According to the State Transport, Project Rehabilitation and International Trade Committee chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong, the government has taken several measures to restore these projects to benefit the people of Malacca. To-date, seven abandoned projects were restored via a joint venture effort between the government and other parties.
Six out of the seven restored projects were located in the Malacca Tengah district, while the remaining project was located in Jasin.
Novotel Hotel (previously known as Ambassador Hotel) in Malacca Raya, Portuguese Village Tourism Front at Ujong Pasir, Gold Coast Resort (previously known as Watercity Resort) in Bukit Katil, Pulau Malacca and Pulau Besar Resort are among the projects that were restored in the Malacca Tengah district, which involves the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, the Malaysia-China light industry township in Tanjung Minyak located within this district was also restored. This project comprises residential and commercial buildings.
“Currently, the government is in the midst of restoring the Ayer Keroh Industrial Estate and is looking forward to restore another eight projects in Malacca Tengah,” said Lim.
There are three tourism projects which involve Paradise Malacca Village Resort in Ayer Keroh, Hotel Merak in Pantai Puteri and Pacific Inn in Tengkera; and five residential and commercial projects which includes Esplanade condominium in Klebang, Malacca Plaza in Jalan Hang Tuah, Bachang Mall in Bachang, a shopping mall in Emperor Hotel, Jalan Munshi Abdullah and Arab City in Pulau Malacca.
