The RM24.3 million one-way loop (OWL) project in Petaling Jaya which commenced in the year 2014 is 83% completed now. The entire project is expected to be completed by 31st August 2016.

According to Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, the project might be completed by the end of July as there are only minor repairs to be done on some parts of the route by utility firms. The project will complete as planned if these firms manage to complete on time.

“The council will only audit the project when it is fully completed,” he added.

The ongoing minor works along the route include works along Jalan Timur and Jalan Utara by the utility firms include touch-up works are being carried out on the curbs, cleaning up of the road medians following the repairs of shattered walkways and construction of scupper drains.

On the other hand, the residents are not satisfied with the works that are being done along this route.

“The island constructed at the entrance of Taman Jaya Lake which has encroached to the main road can put motorist’s life in danger. The ill-design can cause mishaps to the motorists who are unfamiliar with the area,” said David Foo, a resident of Section 12.

Meanwhile, another resident stressed that the road curbs should be painted in bright colours to notify motorists of its existence. At the moment, it is not visible at night. There were also several complaints regarding poor accessibility to the Asia Jaya LRT Station for the motorists who enters from the Federal Highway (KL to Klang route).

The quality of the roads concern residents as well as the roads started crumbling, not very long after its completion. It was repaired again, but residents are still unsure of its standards. Meanwhile, the construction also increased traffic congestion in the vicinity.

In December 2014, around 100 residents attended the OWL briefing to voice out their dissatisfactions over the system. Their request to revert back the route to a two-way traffic system was ignored by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ). The OWL was made permanent further after that.
