After filing a case against Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for approving the construction of a towering condominium on land set aside for utilities and green spaces, residents of Taman Desa were shocked to learn that all three of their protests banners mysteriously disappeared on Monday (13 November).
According to Save Taman Desa group, which is opposing the construction of the project, they put up two of the banners near the community’s entrance via the Salak East — West Link and another one near Jalan Desa Bakti 2.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said he will let the judiciary determine the fate of the 649-unit condominium project known as The Address.
This comes after 11 residents of Taman Desa took DBKL to court in an attempt to block the development consisting of three residential blocks at 34 to 42 storeys high, as its construction would endanger the safety of the residents and cause inconveniences.
In particular, the group asked the Kuala Lumpur High Court for a judicial review to determine if city hall had lawfully followed procedures when it approved the controversial project.
Mayor Mohd Amin revealed that he will await the court’s decision before deciding on the next course of action. Although he insists that the development will only cause minor traffic inconveniences, he admitted that the developer needs to enhance the road infrastructure in the vicinity based on the traffic impact assessment report.
“Among the upgrading works required include the Jalan Desa Bakti-Jalan Desa Utama junction, building a pedestrian walkway around the site and surrendering part of the land to the neighbouring school and condominium for road reserve.”
“The developer is also required to ensure that nearby residents are informed on the project through a meeting with the residents and advertisements in Malay and English newspapers,” he added.
