Phase 1 of Residensi Pandanmas, a Federal Territories Affordable Housing (Rumawip) project at Kampung Pandan in Ampang has been completed nine months ahead of schedule following the start of its construction in 2014, reported the New Straits Times.

On Tuesday (25 April), the keys to the 700 houses under Phase 1 were handed over to the buyers, in a launching ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Each home is priced from RM280,000 to RM300,000, and comes with a dining room, kitchen, a living room, two toilets and three bedrooms.

Najib noted that this a great opportunity for the successful applicants in Residensi Pandanmas, as similar units available in the market are selling for between RM500,000 and RM700,000.

“The owners today have benefited from the project. It’s just like striking lottery,” he told the Malay Mail Online.

Moreover, Phase 1 of Residensi Pandanmas will house around 300 squatters mainly consisting of Indians who had resided in Kampung Pandanmas for almost 30 years.

“This is a resettlement program. I was told that they couldn’t afford to pay the 10 percent deposit. So today, we are giving them a 100 percent loan.”

As for the project’s second phase, it is expected to be ready by 2019 and will comprise 1,920 units, of which 300 units will cost RM42,000 each.

In total, the Federal Government intends to construct 80,000 Rumawip houses in Labuan, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur within five years. As of 31 March 2017, 55,609 units have already been completed.

To qualify for Rumawip homes, single buyers must have a monthly salary of below RM10,000, while married couples need to have a household income of under RM15,000 per month.

The buyer must also be a Malaysian citizen age 18 and above, who either works or lives within the federal territories.
