The state government of Johor eyes to deliver 60,000 homes under the Johor Affordable Homes Scheme (RMMJ), with all districts benefiting from the programme, reported The Star.
“The state government is committed to deliver 60,000 units by 2020 with support from state-linked companies and developers undertaking the projects,” said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He noted that while Iskandar Malaysia has higher demand due to its higher population, demand for such homes can also be seen in other parts of Johor.
“We are giving equal attention to other districts as well and the number of units will be built accordingly in the respective districts,” said Mohamed Khaled, following the handing over of keys of RMMJ houses in Setia Business Park II.
SP Setia Bhd developed 490 double-storey terrace homes under the RMMJ initiative, which were launched in May this year with prices ranging from RM150,000 and RM206,000 each.
In lauding the developers’ cooperation in developing the homes under RMMJ, Mohamed Khaled said the government would have trouble providing the houses to the people if not for their help.
Notably, 5,490 homes would be delivered in stages by end-2017, while another 14,500 units would be delivered by end-2018.
“Delivering 60,000 units of affordable houses is not an easy task and it will take time for us to deliver them but we will do our best,” said Mohamed Khaled.
