District officials and personnel of Gombak’s land department have been instructed to check on what appears to be illegal cutting of trees on a hillock near Jalan Rawang, reported The Star.
“I am not aware of the felling of trees on the hillock. People using Jalan Rawang are not able to see it. Those living in the higher floors of Taman Amansiara apartment have a better view of the hills,” said Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari upon seeing StarMetro’s aerial pictures of the area.
“I have ordered the Gombak Land and District Offices to probe the issue and report their findings to me,” he said, while on a visit to Gombak for the state exco meeting.
In particular, he ordered the Gombak Land and District Offices to swiftly investigate the issue and report their findings to him, as unlawful clearing of hillside land could lead to landslides and accidents in light of the prevailing rainy season.
Notably, The Star used a drone to take pictures of the area after residents of Taman Amansiara raised the alarm over unauthorized hill clearing to Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).
Aside from felling many trees, the perpetrators also built three shacks with zinc roofing, which are dangerously close to high voltage lines.
According to Gombak District Officer Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim, this issue must be investigated first. The hills in Rawang, Gombak, Kundang and Selayang must also be frequently monitored.
