All Government Buildings Must Have Fire Certificate

18 Dec 2018

Starting January next year, all government buildings in Malaysia would be required to secure a fire certificate (FC) from the Fire and Rescue Department to ensure safety standards, reported The Star.

Government buildings were previously not required to get the FC, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

She revealed that the paperwork pertaining to the matter would be presented to the Cabinet soon.

“Starting from January, all government buildings must have the FC. It is already a requirement for privately-owned buildings,” said Zuraida following a visit at plastic factory Intraco See Hau Global Sdn Bhd in Ulu Tiram, Johor Bahru.

Enforcement would cover all government buildings – both new and old ones within the country.

In fact, the Fire and Rescue Department had already been conducting checks on such buildings in order to facilitate enforcement.
