Controversial Project In Taman Wahyu To Continue, Developer Asked To Build Affordable Homes

3 Jul 2018

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said they cannot discontinue a controversial project in Taman Wahyu near a flood retention pond, reported The Star.

“We met Dr Ali to ask for the project to be scrapped but this is unlikely to happen because the Federal Government will have to compensate the developer,” said Kepong Community Service Centre Head Yee Poh Ping.

The community leader and the residents, who have asked the authorities to review the project due to fears that it will cause problems due to its proximity to the pond, also wants the developer to construct low-cost homes.

“Since the land was sold below market value, the developer should give back to society by including affordable homes in its project and improve the roads,” he explained.

Earlier this month, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng revealed that the 35.2ha site for the project was sold by the previous administration for RM68 psf in November 2015, when the fair market value was about RM250 psf back then.

Moreover, locals want Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to ensure that the project will not cause any problems after it is completed as construction work has allegedly affected a part of the pond.

“We want DBKL to impose specific conditions in the development order,” noted Yee.

However, city officials insisted that the land reclamation works will not impact the pond’s capacity.

“We still need to issue the development order for the buildings as some of them are near the pond,” said DBKL Executive Director for Planning Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd.

Notably, there are still no building plans for the project, with only the building layout was approved. The developer has also agreed to set aside five percent of the site for recreational and public space.
