Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin has revealed plans to build a recreational park at the Highland Towers site, reported The Star.
This comes as the site in Ampang is not suitable for houses or buildings.
“I was made to understand that the Highland Towers site is not suitable for buildings or houses, so one idea is for it to be turned to a park or recreational space,” said Zuraida following the launch of Girl2Leader Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
“I will ensure that the ministry will approve the plan for the park if that is the committee’s intention.”
She noted that the committee had already met five times and has also identified the building’s legal owners as well as sorted out legal matters.
The Ampang MP said having a park would be beneficial to the people, especially those within her constituency.
Highland Towers condominium was left abandoned after one of the development’s three blocks collapsed on 11 December 1993, resulting to the death of 48 people.
