MPSJ Urges Owners Of Vacant Lots To Fence Up Or Face Fines

14 Sept 2018

The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has called on owners of vacant land to fence up their property, otherwise they risk paying hefty fines if such land is turned into an illegal dumpsite, reported The Star.

The move came after a fire broke out on a 1.21ha idle lot along Jalan Perindustrian Puchong which was turned into a dumpsite of construction waste including wooden planks, bricks and plastic materials, said MPSJ Councillor George Yap.

It took the firefighters three days to put out the fire and control the smoke.

While the landowner, who is a developer, did not commit the offence, he was still issued summons and fined RM1,000 for open burning, RM1,000 for disturbance and RM25,000 for working on the land without a permit.

“The developer has said it would fence up the area within three weeks…MPSJ has also asked the developer to clear the waste to prevent another fire,” said Yap.

In the event the developer did not clear the land, future requests for development on the site would be put on hold until it is cleared of waste, said MPSJ Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department Deputy Director Azlina Mat Salim.

Asia Chong, a 56-year old resident of Glomac Lakeside Residences and who drives by Jalan Perindustrian Puchong daily, said she noticed the pile of rubbish growing day by day after this year’s Chinese New Year.

“I found it odd so I got a friend to help notify the authorities,” she said, adding that she could smell the smoke, when the fire broke out, all the way from her home, which was about 2km away.

Meanwhile, MPSJ had also been notified of a vacant lot facing Jalan TMP 1 that was also being used as an illegal dumping site for construction waste.

MPSJ said it will take immediate action to prevent the culprits from entering the site and determine the landowner for further action.
