Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun revealed that the state government of Negeri Sembilan is conducting a detailed study on its 14th general election (GE14) promise of providing freehold land titles to leasehold housing lots, reported Bernama.
Before GE14, Pakatan Harapan has promised to award freehold land titles to new villages within Negeri Sembilan.
“The implementation will take time and needs careful study, it cannot be done in one or two days or one or two months, we need a really detailed study because it is a problem of the people…that is why we said we will solve all the problems within five years,” said Aminuddin in responding to Yap Yew Weng’s (DAP-Mambau) question on the status of the state government’s promise to award such titles.
Since it involves hundreds of thousands of homes, the state government has in fact conducted various meetings and workshops on the issue, with the latest being a workshop on the conversion of leasehold land titles to freehold, he said.
Aminuddin, who also serves as Sikamat State Assemblyman, noted that the no implementation date has been set by the state government since the study is yet to be completed.
He added that the government is working to implement the agenda in a transparent and clean manner.
“However, the freehold status will only be given to homeowners who had lived there before GE14.”
