It is possible to build housing on the existing footprint of Bukit Kiara longhouse in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, if profit will not be the main agenda of the developer.
“I have received outside opinions from other housing developers and it is absolutely possible to build housing within the longhouse footprint,” said Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh was one of the members of the joint working committee (JWC) that was set up in November last year to resolve the issue on the Taman Rimba Kiara development.
“Our agenda is to settle the housing (for the longhouse residents), thus we must go back to the spirit behind the initial project that was given approval,” she stated after unveiling the newly repaired water pump system at the Kepong police station.
Other members of the JWC include representatives from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Taman Tun Dr Ismail Residents’ Association (TTDIRA), the Federal Territories Ministry and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan.
The committee’s first meeting in December saw all parties express their views and perspectives but could not arrive to a consensus on the proposed scaled-down project by the developer, reported The Star.
Yeoh revealed that the next meeting will likely be held after the Chinese New Year.
“No dates have been fixed for the meeting as we need to give ample time and notification to all representatives,” she said.
“We have requested the developer resubmit a further scaled down project limited to only the longhouse footprint and to not eat up the green space…The details need to be further discussed with the JWC where the residents are also represented.”
Yeoh underscored that her agenda remains to be the provision of housing for the longhouse residents and the preservation of Taman Rimba Kiara.
“We will never get back the green areas that we have given out and our aim is to preserve the green area as it is.”
