Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) is bringing e-scooters to Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur by partnering with Beam, a Singapore-based electric scooter (e-scooter).
This sharing service provider is growing its footprint in Kuala Lumpur and was recently launched and officiated by Ng Hui Lin, Beam Malaysia Launcher in the presence of Datuk Dell Akbar Khan, Executive Vice President of MRCB.
Beam has partnered with Segway Ninebot to bring the e-scooter service to KL Sentral CBD for a convenient and efficient pedestrian friendly transportation option. The e-scooter service at Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur is available from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm daily. Riders will need to download the Beam Scooter app to unlock and ride it. It costs RM2.50 to unlock the e-scooter.

Riders can find 30 e-scooters at two high traffic areas, namely Level 2 Main Entrance of Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur and the Lot F Car Park. Beam will expand the service gradually as per demand. While riders can end their trips at any location within the KL Sentral CBD geofence, they are encouraged to park the escooters at designated spots for the next riders’ convenience.
To further incentivise this, riders who park the e-scooters at designated spots will have RM2.50 credited back to their accounts. Beam will re-charge the e-scooters every night for redistribution the next morning and will also conduct weekly maintenance checks.
The e-scooter boasts the highest global fire safety standard (UL2272 Safety Certification) and meets stringent safety standards. It travels at a maximum speed of 25km per hour with batteries that last for about 45km and hosts a proprietary GPS system allowing for easier relocation at high-demand areas for riders’ convenience.
Christopher Hilton, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Beam said, “We are excited to partner with MRCB to bring a new mobility option to Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur. By making available our e-scooters for hire, Beam aims to provide greater convenience in KL Sentral CBD.”
He continued, “We recognise that we have an obligation not just to our riders but to all commuters and pedestrians. Given that our e-scooters will be in a public space, we will continue engaging with the regulators, businesses, commuters and residents to ensure that the service is well-integrated into the physical shared spaces of Kuala Lumpur’s bustling and vibrant areas”.
Datuk Dell Akbar Khan stated, “The activation of the e-scooters service at Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur provides enhanced convenience for commuters, visitors and tourists alike. It is also an additional transportation option that enables short trips to be taken on shared mobility devices within the geofence of KL Sentral CBD, which will eventually contribute to a reduction in the carbon footprint.”
