A farming policy aimed at regulating and propelling urban farming in Malaysia has been virtually launched by Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Dubbed the Dasar Kebun Komuniti Bandar (DKKB), or Urban Community Farming Policy, the policy will outline five thrusts as well as 17 strategies that are in line with procedures and regulations enforced by local government authorities, reported Bernama.

Emphasising the importance of optimising land use within the neighbourhood or permitted open spaces, DKKB will ensure effective urban landscape management, which will involve joint responsibilities between the local community and the local authorities, said Zuraida.
She noted that the policy is an initiative targeted at empowering urban communities, while creating opportunities for communities and individuals to manage the short-term social economy by promoting organic vegetable farming.
It will also help educate the public on the do’s and don’ts of urban farming, added Zuraida.
DKKB also reflects the commitment of the government to ensure the continuity of the community farming programme by the People’s Housing Project (PPR) residents via the Muafakat Komuniti Secretariat to achieve the objective of one PPR one community farm, she said.
